How To Put A Chamois Grip On
There are two ways of putting a chamois grip on. You can either start from the bottom of the hockey stick grip or you can start from the top of the hockey stick grip.
The key to both methods are that you have to put the chamois grip on with tight tension to ensure that the chamois grip stays on correctly!
Starting From The Bottom Of the Hockey Stick Grip
- Start to wrap the chamois grip just under the original hockey stick grip.
- Cut the hockey binding or PVC tape into two strips big enough to wrap around the top and bottom of the hockey stick to fix the chamois to the hockey stick.
- Start to wrap the chamois grip up the hockey stick handle towards the end cap of the hockey stick. Making sure you overlap the grip slightly as you go.
- As you reach the end cap of the hockey stick you will have to mark the chamois grip with your nail where you will have to cut the excess chamois.
- Once you have cut the chamois grip you will have to re wrap the top section, once you have re wrapped the grip use a piece of your pre cut tape to attach the grip to the end cap of the stick.
- Add the tape to the bottom of the grip to ensure that the chamois grip is fully fixed to your hockey stick.
Starting From The Top Of the Hockey Stick Grip
- Start the wrap at the top of the hockey stick and you will aim to wrap the chamois grip to the bottom of the hockey sticks original grip.
- Cut a single strip of binding or PVC tape to use to fix the grip to the stick at the end.
- Start wrapping the chamois grip down the shaft of the hockey stick ensuring a slight overlap of the grip.
- This method means to you don't have to cut the Chamois Grip to ensure a tight fit. Once you reach the end of the chamois grip all you have to do is to use the tape that you have pre cut to bind the chamois grip to the hockey stick.
- OPTIONAL: Adding another piece of tape to the top of the chamois grip to give you some extra security to ensure your grip does not come off!
Now That You Have Your Grip On, What Now?
Now that you have your Chamois grip on your hockey stick, you will want to go on the hockey pitch and show off your new grip. Before you get on with your match or training with your new chamois grip, you have to we the grip ever so slightly. We suggest the best way is to either roll your stick on a wet hockey pitch or use your water bottle to lightly wet your grip. Please do not soak your chamois grip otherwise you wont get the grip you want from it.
How Long Should A Chamois Grip Last?
We get this question very often and the answer will always differ depending on how often you are playing hockey. We have found that top hockey players will change their chamois grip ever 1/2 weeks.
But we have an easy way to remember when to change your chamois grip, we recommend changing your chamois grip every 1/2 months. We have found this to be the best way as it would normally be before the mold starts to set in on the grip due to the wet damp nature of the grip.
